Dana White Says The Women’s Featherweight Division To Continue Without Cyborg
Some may think that the loss of Cyborg would mean the end of the UFC Women’s Featherweight Division, but the division will continue on if White has his way.
“What I’ll do is I’ll talk to the champ,” White said in an interview with Laura Sanko (via Damon Martin of MMA Fighting). “Cyborg isn’t the future of that division anyway.”
White also states that Nunes is the best female featherweight in the world and others who want to be the best will have to defeat her.
“Yes, absolutely [Amanda Nunes could defend both belts]. If you are one of these 145-pound women out there right now and you want to fight the best in the world, you want to be looked at as the best, it’s Amanda Nunes,” White said. “We’ll continue to look for talent like Felicia [Spencer], who came in here and fought the other day and continue to bring new challenges for Amanda Nunes and see who’s next.”
Nunes recently defended the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title at UFC 239 and stated afterwards that she wants to defend the featherweight gold next.
