Dana White Says There’s Not Going To Be A World Tour For UFC 229 Main Event

UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor are set to clash this October in the main event of UFC 229.

Unlike some of McGregor’s past fights in the UFC, one thing this bout won’t be getting is a promotional world tour. That’s according to UFC President Dana White, who also says there will still be some different, but fun stuff leading up to the encounter.

“We don’t have time for a world tour,” White said at the UFC 227 post-fight press conference. “These guys are going to fight the first week of October. Both guys are going to go into camp. We’ll do something fun, we’ll do some different stuff. We’re literally having a big meeting on Monday to get this stuff in order and get it going.”

McGregor had taken part in promotional world tours before for a bout against Jose Aldo at UFC 194 and then for The Money Fight against Floyd Mayweather.

The two fighters are going to be together for whatever promotional work gets done before the bout, but White isn’t worried about the two getting physical beforehand.

“We’re pretty confident that we can control what happens,” White said. “What happened in New York, obviously if you look at what happened, everyone was loading onto the buses, everything was done, and our staff still handled it pretty damn well for what was going down. We’re very aware. Nothing is going to happen. We’ll be good.”

UFC 229 takes place on Saturday, October 6 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
