Dana White Says Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor Is The Fight To Make
UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is currently observing Ramadan, with that observance coming to an end later this month.
When it comes to the first title defense for the champion, a bout against former two division title holder Conor McGregor is the fight to make according to UFC President Dana White.
“That’s the fight to make,” White said on UFC Unfiltered. “But there’s no fight to make until we figure out what happens with Conor.”
McGregor and Nurmagomedov almost came to blows days before UFC 223 after the Irishman and some goons tried attacking a bus full of fighters, allegedly to get at the lightweight champ.
The UFC is making its debut in Russia later this year, but don’t expect to see a potential Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout on that card.
“Khabib won’t fight [in Russia],” he said. “The fight in Moscow is going to be a Fight Night. It’s going to be on Fight Pass. We’re just testing it out out there to see how it goes. It’s a place we’ve been trying to get into for a long time, and we’re doing it.”
If the bout does come together sometime in the future, it would be McGregor’s first Octagon appearance since defeating Eddie Alvarez to win the UFC Lightweight Title at UFC 205.
