There have been a lot of big time fights in the long history of professional boxing and another one is coming down the pike when UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor faces Floyd Mayweather.
According to UFC President Dana White, the McGregor versus Mayweather bout is going to wind up being bigger than Floyd Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao.
“I think we beat the (Manny) Pacquiao fight,” White told reporters at a media event. “I think globally it is a much bigger fight. I agree that Mayweather-Pacquiao was a very big fight. But globally, with Conor’s popularity in Europe, Australia, Brazil, Canada, I think this is a much bigger fight. I think we do really well.”
Pacquiao himself has speaking out against the fight, even going as far as to say he isn’t going to be watching the fight.
White also stated that when McGregor and Mayweather meet in the boxing ring, that anything is possible.
“I hope it is a good fight. I want it to be a good fight. I want people to leave the arena and turn off the TV and they say it was a good fight. Anything is possible in a fight when two men go in there and start throwing punches. Conor is going to go in there and try to knock him out,” says White.
Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather takes place on Saturday, August 26 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
