Dana White Says Kamaru Usman Getting Title Shot At UFC 235

Kamaru Usman, who is ranked #2 in the UFC Welterweight Division top fifteen, is apparently next to challenge for the UFC Welterweight Title.

This is according to UFC President Dana White, who also stated that it may not be current UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley who stands across from Usman in the Octagon on that night.

“That fight is happening or Usman vs. someone for the title,” White texted to MMA Junkie.

Woodley, who hasn’t been seen in the Octagon since successfully defending the title against Darren Till at UFC 228, has been sidelined since that event due to surgery for a hand injury suffered in the Till encounter. Usman recently showed an image of a signed contract for UFC 235, but an opponent wasn’t listed at that time.

Colby Covington is the current UFC Interim Welterweight Champion and the only fighter ranked ahead of Usman, but he hasn’t competed since defeating former UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC 225.

Neither Woodley or Covington have commented on the recent proclamation made by White.

UFC 235 takes place on Saturday, March 2 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
