Dana White Says Jon Jones Deserves An Immediate UFC Heavyweight Title Shot
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones recently vacated the light heavyweight title and if UFC President Dana White is to be believed, it won’t take Jones long to get a crack at the UFC heavyweight title.
That’s because White says that Jones deserves an immediate shot at the UFC heavyweight gold, which is currently held by Stipe Miocic.
“Of course (Jones would get an immediate title shot),” White said after Dana White’s Contender Series Episode 30 (via Jed Meshew of MMA Fighting). “I mean realistically, Jon Jones is undefeated. He’s never been beat. Mazzagatti’s been out of the game for years. I don’t mean to keep beating this guy up, but you know. Jon Jones is undefeated.”
Jones has yet to even fight at heavyweight, as his entire professional MMA career has taken place at light heavyweight. While the title shot may come immediately to Jones, one thing nobody knows is when Jones will make his heavyweight division debut.
“Last time we talked to Jon Jones, Jon Jones said he was going to take some time and do his things he’s into right now and take some time, and when there’s a right fight, he’ll give us a call,” White said.
Even though Jones could get an immediate title shot, it could be awhile before the title bout happens, as Francis Ngannou is expected to get the next crack at Miocic.
