Dana White Says GSP Is Retired, Manager Disagrees
Former two division champion Georges St. Pierre was last seen in the Octagon in the main event of UFC 217, defeating Michael Bisping to win the UFC Middleweight Title.
There are no announced fights on the horizon for GSP and that has lead to UFC President Dana White saying the former champion is retired.
“We’ve been talking about a fight with ‘GSP,’ but ‘GSP’ is retired,” White told TSN. “As far as I’m concerned, ‘GSP’ is retired right now. He’s not interested in fighting anybody.”
GSP has not announced his retirement since the title fight last November, but has been dealing with a health issue in the form of ulcerative colitis.
Rodolphe Beaulieu is GSP’s manager and he sent a text message to MMA Junkie stating that the Canadian fighter isn’t retired.
“He was on Ariel (Helwani’s) show a few weeks ago and on Joe Rogan’s podcast a couple weeks ago and during a three-hour interview he never said he was retired,” Beaulieu said. “He mentioned on both what would interest him. On both interviews he said exactly why he had no interest for the Diaz fight. He explained all his reasoning.”
St. Pierre was recently linked to a fight with Nate Diaz at UFC 227, but GSP shot down that fight because there was nothing to gain from it.
