Dana White Says GSP Must Fight A Contender Before Getting Lightweight Title Shot

Former two division UFC champion Georges St. Pierre has made it known that he may like to fight UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov next year.

UFC President Dana White doesn’t mind putting the fight together, as long as GSP beats a top ranked fighter in the division first.

“How does Georges St-Pierre jump over all the guys fighting in that division to face Khabib? Just because all of a sudden he wants to come out and fight this guy — he doesn’t get to do that. If Georges St-Pierre is serious, listen, I’ll give you a fight with one of these guys in the top five. If you win, you’ll be in position for a title shot,” White said to ESPN.

GSP hasn’t even competed since UFC 217 in November of 2017, where he defeated Michael Bisping to win the UFC Middleweight Title.

White has another big concern before giving GSP a title shot, which is whether or not the Canadian star can make 155 pounds.

”We don’t even know if Georges St-Pierre can make 155 pounds. You know what I mean?” says White.

St. Pierre has previously competed at welterweight and middleweight, but has never competed at lightweight before.
