Dana White: Jon Jones Can’t “Jump In Front Of” Francis Ngannou
Francis Ngannou is expected to get the next shot at UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, which would be a rematch from their first encounter at UFC 220.
Some thought that former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones may jump ahead of Ngannou and get the next title shot, but UFC President Dana White says that won’t happen.
“[Jon Jones is] the longtime light heavyweight champion. In my opinion, he’s the greatest of all time, and if he wants to come back and take a shot at the heavyweight championship, I wouldn’t have a problem with that,” White told ESPN (via Damon Martin of MMA Fighting). “But he can’t just jump in front of Ngannou right now.”
Jones recently vacated the light heavyweight title in order to move up to heavyweight, but no divisional debut fight has been set at this time.
There is no word yet on when Miocic vs. Ngannou II will happen, as Miocic just defended the gold against former two division UFC champion Daniel Cormier in the main event of UFC 252.
