Dana White Says Francis Ngannou Could Be UFC’s Next Big Star
Francis Ngannou returns to action in the co-main event of UFC 218 and his opponent is going to be Alistair Overeem.
UFC President Dana White is expected to be in the house that night and he believes that Ngannou could become the promotion's next big star.
“I like Francis Ngannou,” White said on The TSN MMA Show. “I think Francis Ngannou can be the next big thing, literally and figuratively.”
Ngannou is currently undefeated in UFC competition thus far and that includes a win over former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski.
The heavyweight doesn’t have the best grasp of the English language at this time, but that doesn’t seem to be a concern for the UFC President.
“When you’re a badass, language has nothing to do with it,” White said. “Look at Anderson Silva. Georges St-Pierre. The list goes on and on. It’s about your performances. We think about the talking because (UFC lightweight champion) Conor (McGregor)’s so good. Conor’s a great fighter, and every time he opens his mouth it’s hilarious. But you find those guys once in a blue moon.”
UFC 218 takes place on Saturday, December 2 from the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan with Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
