Dana White Says Fight Island Is The Backup Plan If The State Of Nevada Shuts Down
Fight Island finally debuted this past weekend during UFC 251 and it will be the home for three more UFC cards in the next eleven days.
There is a chance that the state of Nevada could shut down again due to the coronavirus and UFC President Dana White says Fight Island is the backup plan in case the shutdown does happen.
“My backup plan would be ‘Fight Island,’” White said during a recent media scrum (via Alexander K. Lee of MMA Fighting). “We might be living here. Anything is possible. If Nevada shuts down and doesn’t allow us to do fights in Nevada, yeah, I mean we spend a lot of time in Abu Dhabi.”
The UFC has held events in Brazil, Florida, Nevada and Fight Island since the pandemic began.
White would even go as far as to call Abu Dhabi the safest place on the earth right now during the coronavirus pandemic.
“We knew we were doing that when we came,” White said. “Same protocol. Everybody that we were in contact with and everybody that had anything to do with us was tested multiple times. Realistically, Abu Dhabi is the safest place in the world.”
Nevada is not planning to shut down as of this writing, but those plans could change immediately depending on how the ongoing pandemic plays out.
