Dana White Says Dustin Poirier vs. Tony Ferguson Is “Probably” Next
A surely violent fight between lightweight contenders is in the works as UFC President Dana White teases a match-up between Dustin Poirier and Tony Ferguson.
White all but confirmed the booking while speaking with media at the UFC Fight Night: Edgar vs. Munhoz post-fight press conference. When asked if the promotion has a fight lined up for Ferguson, White replied, “We do.” When asked if the fight was against Poirier, White smirked and said, “probably.”
Poirier (no. 2) out-hustled Dan Hooker in a thrilling five-round fight to bounce back from his loss to UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Ferguson (no. 3) comes off a fifth-round TKO loss to Interim UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje.
Poirier if 5-1 in his last six fights, beating a murderers row that includes Hooker, Max Holloway, Eddie Alvarez, Gaethje, Anthony Pettis and Jim Miller. Ferguson won an incredible 12 straight prior to the Gaethje loss, beating the likes of Donald Cerrone, Pettis, Kevin Lee, Rafael dos Anjos, Edson Barboza and Josh Thomson.
