Dana White Says Arizona An Option For Next Fight Night Event If Las Vegas Isn’t Available
The next UFC card is scheduled for Saturday, May 30 and it is reportedly going to be headlined by former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley facing Gilbert Burns.
A rumored location for the May 30 card is the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, but UFC President Dana White says Arizona could be an option if Las Vegas isn’t one.
“I don’t know yet, but that’s what we’re working on. That’s what we’re hoping for,” White said after UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Harris (via Tristan Critchfield of Sherdog). “We’re rolling now. If we can’t get May 30 at the Apex, it’s gonna be super disappointing, but we will go somewhere else. That’s where I’ll go (Arizona). That’s 100 percent where I’ll go.”
Arizona Governor David Ducey has already cleared the way for sports leagues to operate in the state, starting on May 15.
Not a lot of bouts have been announced for the May 30 card, but White says key people in the UFC will make some big decisions in the coming week.
“Nothing has mattered to us but this week right now. This is all we care about — getting through this week,” White said. “We go home. We start getting back in the office next week. All of our employees are being tested [for coronavirus] right now. So we’re testing the whole company, and we’re getting everybody back to work. The matchmaking meeting is Tuesday, so we’ll get our s—t together next week.”
UFC Fight Night: Woodley vs. Burns takes place on Saturday, May 30 from a location to be announced with Tyron Woodley and Gilbert Burns headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be announced.
