UFC Wichita’s Dan Moret Discusses Benefits Of Being Knocked Out By Gilbert Burns

Dan Moret is back in the Octagon at UFC Fight Night Wichita, facing Alex White in a lightweight division clash.

The fighter may have suffered a second round knockout loss to Gilbert Burns in the UFC debut at UFC On Fox 29, but Moret learned that he belonged in the promotion after that bout.

“I mean that I learned that I feel like I belong there, I fought one of the best guys in the world. He’s arguably top twenty in the world and one of the biggest lightweights around, I felt like I hung in there for as long as I did and it was a good fight up until it wasn’t. He hit me with some shots, I gave him a little bit. I had him on his heels for a little bit in the first round, it was nice to feel what that’s like. You take those steps up from the local fights to an RFA/LFA, fights like that. Then to go to the UFC and to know that it really wasn’t any different for me, I didn’t feel nervous…there wasn’t any of that kind of stuff. I took a short notice fight against a top guy in the world and I gave it all I had, I’m glad to have that experience and to know that I belong in there. I’m ready to fight the best guys in the world,” says Moret in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.

Moret is also going to be back in action for the first time in about a year, as his UFC debut took place in April of 2018.

If experience has taught Moret one thing, it would be to not dink around and to be on top of his game all year.

“That’s easy for me, I competed at 145 pounds before…so 155 is obviously easy. I don’t take time to get fat and sassy like some of the guys do, you know…eat a bunch and hang out. I’m 32 years old, I don’t have time to dink around and waste time and get out of shape. I’m always trying to get better, I realize that I’m not as good as I can be or wanna be or what the level requires. If you want to win fights and be successful and get contracts from the UFC, you gotta be on top of your game all year around. When I was 25, maybe I did take a little bit of time off…dink around and eat a bunch of cupcakes and whatever, but I don’t have time for that now. I’m staying on the weight, the weight cut will be super easy for me…not a problem,” says Moret.

UFC Fight Night Wichita takes place on Saturday, March 9 from the Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas with Derrick Lewis and Junior Dos Santos headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
