Dan Lambert Says Next Win Will Earn Joanna Jedrzejczyk A Title Shot

Former UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Michelle Waterson will headline the UFC Fight Night San Francisco card

American Top Team owner Dan Lambert says that Jedrzejczyk will get another shot at the strawweight gold with a win over Waterson.

“I guess I’ll tell you after camp and how the weight cut went. She has the best chance to get a title shot at strawweight,” Lambert told BJPenn.com. “The UFC told her with a win she gets a title shot. I’m happy to see her have a clear path to get a title shot. With no clear path, she was not going to rush back. I’m happy to see her back training.”

Jedrzejczyk first won the title by defeating Carla Esparza at UFC 185, but would lose it to Rose Namajunas at UFC 217

UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Jessica Andrade is defending the gold against Weili Zhang at UFC Fight Night Shenzhen and Lambert believes it would be best for Jedrzejczyk is Andrade retains the gold.

“From Joanna’s standpoint, the path to a title shot is quicker with Jessica holding the title. Selfishly speaking we were hoping for Jessica,” Lambert said. “She has to defend her title first [against Weili Zhang], and who knows how that goes. After Joanna’s and Jessica’s fight if they both win, the UFC will make that fight.”

UFC Fight Night San Francisco takes place on Saturday, October 12 from the Chase Center in San Francisco, California with Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Michelle Waterson headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
