Cyborg’s UFC Contract Is Close To Expiring
Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino’s time in the UFC may be coming to an end in a few short months, because her contract with the promotion expires this October.
According to a report from MMA Fighting, the contract Cyborg signed with the UFC three years ago was for a total of seven fights. However, whether the Brazilian star competes in all seven fights or not, the contract will still expire by October of this year.
The contract that was signed allowed Cyborg to fight in Invicta FC as well as the UFC. The fighter captured the Invicta FC Featherweight Title. Justino has only fought twice under the UFC banner since signing the deal, defeating Lina Lansberg and Leslie Smith.
A potential UFC Women’s Featherweight Title bout between champion Germaine De Randamie and Cyborg is rumored for UFC 214, but nothing has been made official at this time. The fight really hinges on the health of the champion, who has been going back and forth on a potential hand surgery.
It should also be noted that when Cyborg competed under the Invicta FC banner, the fighter was being paid first by Zuffa and then by WME-IMG.
Cyborg currently has a total of two fights left on her contract and six months of time left on the very same contract. If the rumored by with De Randamie takes place this July at UFC 214, that would leave the Brazilian with just three months to negotiate a new deal or potentially leave the promotion altogether.
