Cyborg Reacts To UFC Women’s Featherweight Title Fight

Fightful reported that the first ever UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion will be crowned this February at UFC, as former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Holly Holm faces Germaine De Randamie.

However, despite the fact that the UFC is finally adding the division that Invicta FC Featherweight Champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos has been pleading for the UFC to add for awhile now, she is not to happy with who is fighting for the inaugural championship.

"Everybody knows I’m the featherweight champion,” Cyborg said to MMA Fighting. "I’m undefeated for 10 years in my division. They put this belt only to sell the fight for the new MMA fans. For an example, Holly is coming off two consecutive losses and will fight for the belt. The real fight fans know what’s real."

Since Cyborg has already fought twice in the UFC, defeating Leslie Smith and Lina Lansberg, plus when you consider she is the current Invicta FC Featherweight Champion, one could assume should would be in line for a title shot, but Cyborg is unsure of that at this time.

"I have no idea, there are no rules in MMA,” Cyborg said. “The last fight in the men’s 145-pound division, a 10-0 fighter fought a guy who was 1-5 in his last fights. Other fighters like me have to wait for a title fight. I’m fighting for my division for 10 years, and until yesterday Dana said there were no women. This is our reality."

Lance Pugmire, a sports writer for the Los Angeles times was able to contact UFC President Dana White and see why Cyborg is not fighting for the gold. According to White, Cyborg didn't want to fight.

UFC 208 takes place on Saturday, February 11 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York with no main event announced.
