Cyborg Knew UFC 240 Was Going To Be Her Final UFC Bout
Former UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion Cyborg scored a unanimous decision win over Felicia Spencer at UFC 240, which would serve as her final UFC bout.
Cyborg must’ve had a premonition about the event, because the former women’s featherweight champion claimed she knew that the UFC 240 bout would be the end of the run with the UFC.
“After my last fight, I asked for a rematch (with Nunes),” Cyborg said backstage at Bellator 226 (via Steven Marrocco & Ken Hathaway of MMA Junkie). “And they said they’re not going to give it to me. When I did my last fight, I knew it was the last fight. When I stepped into the cage, I said, ‘This is the last one.’”
The former women’s featherweight champion was booted from the promotion during an exclusive negotiation period between the two, as UFC President Dana White would say that the UFC was getting out of the “Cyborg business.”
Bellator MMA is the new home for Cyborg and the fighter feels that this is a new chapter for her professional MMA career.
“It’s a new chapter in my career,” she said. “(Dana) lost. You can see all the interviews he talks about me because it feels like we’re divorced. It’s another page in my career, and I’m really happy to be a part of Bellator.”
There is no word yet on when Cyborg is going to be making her Bellator MMA debut, but Bellator MMA President Scott Coker says that Cyborg would get an immediate shot at the women’s featherweight title.
