Cub Swanson Competes At Quintet Ultra, Suffers ACL & Meniscus Tear
UFC veteran Cub Swanson was a part of Team WEC at the recent Quintet Ultra event, facing Team Strikeforce’s Jake Shields in a grappling match.
Swanson would not leave the event unscathed, as the fighter suffered a serious knee injury when facing Shields.
The fighter posted the following on Instagram:
UFC President Dana White was present at the event and he said the following about Swanson’s injury at the UFC 247 press conference (via Dave Doyle of MMA Junkie):
“These grappling things for them are supposed to be fun and go out and you have some of the best in the world grappling against each other. These are the type of things can happen. That was a really good submission that he had him and his knee popped out. So, he’s getting an MRI today, and we’ll see where it’s at. Hopefully it will be something that just needs some physical therapy and not surgery. I hate it.”
There is no word yet on how long Swanson is expected to be out of action for, as the fighter was last seen competing this past October at UFC Fight Night Tampa.
