CSAC Says Drew Dober Must Fight At Welterweight In Next Bout
Drew Dober earned a first round knockout victory over Josh Burkman on the preliminary card of UFC 214.
However, the victorious Dober fought 18% above his weight at UFC 214 and according to the new weigh-in regulations from the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC), the lightweight’s next fight must be at welterweight.
“Fighter must be cleared by physician or must move up in weight due to greater than 18% weight increase,” the CSAC 10 point weight cutting plan document reads. “Fighter needs to be in a heavier weight class per medical evaluation.”
Despite the one fight stint he must have at welterweight, the fighter still envisions a future in the lightweight division.
“I think 55 is definitely not extremely thrown out the window,” Dober said after the event. “If I make the correct decisions, I think 155 should be a realistic division.”
The lightweight wasn’t the only fighter nabbed under the new weight cutting plan, because former UFC Bantamweight Champion Renan Barao was forced to compete in a catchweight fight at UFC 214 for not making weight in his last few attempts in the division.
