CSAC Expected To Medically Clear Rory MacDonald For Bellator 222

Bellator MMA Welterweight Champion Rory MacDonald fought Jon Fitch to a majority draw at Bellator 220 to advance in the Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix.

An advancing MacDonald is now expected to face Neiman Gracie in the semi-finals of the welterweight world grand prix next month at Bellator 222.

The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) issued a 60 day and 180 day medical suspension to MacDonald for the fight at Bellator 220.

However, according to CSAC Executive Director Andy Foster, who spoke with MMA Junkie, a medically suspended MacDonald is expected to be cleared in time to compete at Bellator 220. MacDonald has already taken to social media to state that he will fight Gracie at the event, which is less than six weeks away.

Foster told MMA Junkie that he will have to take the proper steps to be cleared to fight at Bellator 222, but expects the fighter to get through them.

There has been no comment yet from the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) on MacDonald’s status for the event, as Bellator 222 is taking place in New York, New York.

Bellator 222 takes place on Friday, June 14 from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with Chael Sonnen and Lyoto Machida headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on the Paramount Network.
