CSAC Executive Director Says Drew Chatman Could Face Additional Penalties For Flip

Drew Chatman made his professional MMA debut at Legacy Fighting Alliance 36, but it was the fighters post-bout antics that most will remember. Chatman would stand on top of his knocked out opponent before performing a back flip on him, landing on the fighters back.

Chatman has already faced some penalties for his actions, but California State Athletic Commission Executive Director Andy Foster says more punishments could be on their way.

“I don’t foresee that right now,” Foster said to MMA Junkie. “He shouldn’t have done it. He knows he shouldn’t have done it. It’s totally unbecoming of the sport. It’s a discredit to mixed martial arts, but he’s admitted all of that. We implemented there cageside the maximum punishments we could do while we were there on the ground looking at it. We disqualified him, so therefore he lost the fight. When you’re disqualified you’re not able to receive compensation, so he didn’t get any money. Then we gave him a suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct, under Rule 390. Then I may do additional things to his license when I’m able to review it even further.”

The fighter has already apologized for his actions, plus had the win overturned to a disqualification loss and a loss of the fight purse.

Foster has never seen anything like this before, which is why he doesn’t even know what to call Chatman’s actions.

“When you’re dealing with it I’m trying to figure out what to call it, because it basically violated about four rules at the same time,” says Foster.

There is no word at this time as to when those potential added suspensions could be announced.
