Conor McGregor Wants Rematch With Nurmagomedov, Says Trilogy Bout With Nate Diaz Happening
Former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor and UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov collided at UFC 229, with Nurmagomedov scoring a fourth round submission win.
A defeated McGregor believes that there are still some disputes to settle between the two, which is why he wants a rematch with the champion.
“When you beat a man convincingly, it’s not really necessary to go back for a rematch but when there’s dispute, there must be a rematch,” McGregor said during a fan interaction in Chicago (via Jed Meshew of MMA Fighting). “There was dispute in my last one. I slapped his brother and his cousin on top of the cage, he tried to jump out and run. This is not over, so there’s dispute, there has to be a rematch.”
Another person that McGregor has his sights set on is Nate Diaz and the Irishman says a rubber match will take place.
“Diaz gave me my rematch and I’ve got respect for that,” McGregor said. “We fought, he beat me, he gave me a rematch at the exact same weight, there was no hesitation. That’s a true fighter right there so I’ve got nothing but respect. I owe him the trilogy now and the trilogy will happen.”
Diaz won the first meeting between the two at UFC 196, but it was McGregor pulling out the win in their second encounter at UFC 202.
