Combate Americas Featherweight Champion Survives Getting Shot During Robbery Attempt
Combate Americas Featherweight Bruno Cannetti, brother of UFC veteran Guido Cannetti, last competed at Combate Americas 42 in August of 2019, defeating Andres Quintana by unanimous decision.
The champ was involved in a fight of a different kind, as the NY Post reported that Cannetti was shot during a recent robbery attempt in Buenos Aires, Brazil.
Cannetti was attacked by thugs while riding his motorcycle through a local neighborhood, with the attackers attempting to steal the motorcycle. Cannetti was trying to hand over the keys when one of the attackers hit him, which led to a scuffle between the two.
One of the attackers pulled out a gun and when Cannetti attempted to flee the scene, was shot once in the chest and another bullet nipped his abdomen. Guido would come to his brother’s aid, but the thieves would flee with Bruno’s phone and nothing else.
Doctors would remove the bullet from Cannetti’s chest and the fighter would be discharged from the hospital a short time later.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting as of this writing.
