Colby Covington Confident Ahead Of UFC 268 Rematch With Kamaru Usman: “I Just Know This Is My Destiny”
Former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington isn’t lacking confidence ahead of his rematch with current champ Kamaru Usman at UFC 268 this Saturday night in New York City, New York.
Covington spoke with TMZ Sports about how he’s feeling going into his second matchup with Usman and reiterated just how competitive their initial meeting at UFC 245 in December 2019 was. The 33-year old Clovis, California native also is just happy to put that first fight in the past and in his words, finally accomplish his destiny against Usman come Saturday night.
“Man, I feel like a little kid before Christmas,” Covington said (h/t BJPenn.com). “I’m so excited I finally got what I’ve been begging for and what I earned. Most people want to say that this fight wasn’t competitive the first time we fought, I beat him multiple rounds. He had to take multiple fouls and multiple timeouts. I kicked him in the liver and they called it a nut shot. I had him on the wobbly street with the high kick and he’s faking the eye poke on the right eye when it barely grazed his left eye so we know he’s a terrible actor. The great thing is that’s in that past now. Now we get to see the evolution of our games. It’s been two years since we first fought. He’s at a new camp, I’m at a new camp. I have great new energy around me, great coaches. I just know this is my destiny. I will be the UFC undisputed champion, only on pay-per-view from the Mecca, Madison Square Garden, on November 6.”
