Coach Says Holly Holm Broke Ronda Rousey
It has now been well over a years’ time since Holly Holm defeated then UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion by second round head kick knockout to win the championship.
Rousey has since suffered a defeat to current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes, who finished the former champion in a measly 48 seconds at UFC 207.
Coach Mike Winklejohn, who has been with Holm since her days in boxing, is a firm believer that his charge broke Rousey.
“I think Holly broke her [Rousey],” Winkeljohn said on Submission Radio. “I think Ronda was on top of the world and Holly broke her, because when she came out for Amanda [Nunes] she just wasn’t the same fighter by any means. Not taking anything away from Amanda, but Ronda, she didn’t have anything, she just wasn’t there. She was just basically waiting for the end in essence once she couldn’t find a way to grab her. And she did the same thing she’s done before in the past, reaching out with her left arm and trying to corral. It was just a one-sided fight just like I said. I think she’s done.”
Holm hasn’t found much success since defeating Rousey, as she dropped the w=omen’s bantamweight title to Miesha Tate at UFC 196, then dropped a decision to Valentina Shevchenko at UFC On Fox 20.
UFC 208 takes place on Saturday, February 11 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York with Holly Holm and Germaine De Randamie headlining.
