Chris Weidman Doubts Michael Bisping Will Face Yoel Romero

Former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman is preparing to battle Gegard Mousasi in the co-main event of UFC 210.

The current middleweight champion in Michael Bisping has threatened to defend his gold against Yoel Romero this July if Georges St. Pierre doesn’t fight him by then.

Weidman doesn’t think Bisping will stay true to his word if it comes down to it.

“No,” Weidman told MMA Junkie. “Bisping just talks. I don’t think he’s going to fight Yoel Romero, or he wants to delay it as much as possible. He said himself he’s going to retire in one or two fights.”

A date for the fight between Bisping and GSP has yet to be set, all that we know is that it will happen by the second time this year.

If he wants to get an opportunity to reclaim his title, the former middleweight champion knows that he needs a win at UFC 210.

“I need to get this win,” he said. “That’s the most important, and I’m ready. I’m more than ready. After that, it’s just a popularity contest. Let’s be honest – Yoel Romero is next, but he’s not getting his shot, simply because he doesn’t speak English, and he’s Cuban. Those things matter. But at the end of the day, I need to win. I need to do my job first, and we’ll see out it goes.”

UFC 210 takes place on Saturday, April 8 from the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York with Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson headlining. Fightful will be providing live coverage of the event.
