Charles Oliveira Says Coronavirus Slowed Down Contract Talks With The UFC
Charles Oliveira has spent the last nine-plus years competing in the UFC, earning a record of 17-8-0-1NC in the promotion.
The fighter is currently negotiating a new contract with the UFC, but Oliveira says that the coronavirus has slowed those talks down.
“We’re going through very difficult times with the coronavirus, so it’s in (my managers’) hands,” Oliveira told MMA Fighting. “‘Macaco’ called me 15 of 20 days after the event and said he spoke with (UFC matchmaker) Sean (Shelby), and Sean said they would wait for this whole coronavirus thing to be over to sit and talk. We know the contract with the UFC is over, but it will definitely be renewed.”
Oliveira is currently riding a seven fight winning streak in the promotion and is ranked #8 in the UFC Lightweight Division.
While it is unknown at this time as to when Oliveira will fight again, one thing he wants to see is the world return to normal after the coronavirus pandemic.
“I want this whole (pandemic) to be over so we can get back to our normal lives and then we will definitely renew our contract,” he said. “That’s something good for me.”
Brazil is a country that has been hit hard by the coronavirus, with 36,658 people diagnosed with the virus and 2,354 passing away due to it according to WorldOMeters.
