The lightweight championship has been vacant since Oliveira missed weight prior to defeating Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC 274. Even though Oliveira was able to defeat Gaethje, he was still stripped of the title for failing to miss weight.
Makhachev has been on the war path, winning ten consecutive fights, dating back to 2015, including impressive victories over Arman Tsaryukan and Dan Hooker.
A matchup between the UFC’s most relentless wrestler in Makhachev, and the sport’s most lethal submission artist sure looks like an excellent matchup on paper.
