Charles Byrd Retires After UFC 250 Loss

Charles Byrd competed on the preliminary card of UFC 250, suffering a second round TKO loss to Maki Pitolo.

It turns out that the loss would also serve as the final fight of Byrd’s UFC career, as the fighter retired after the event.

The fighter made the announcement through Facebook:

“Ive never been afraid to fail or try. Never thought I’d say this at this moment but I’m ok and accepting that sometimes things in life dont go as expected. Mentally and physically prepared for this bout. But the outcome didn’t go my way. Im ready to explore that next chapter and path God has for me. I appreciate the love and support from everyone friends and family through this journey I call my fight career. Achieved many great things for myself and developed alot of memories. But time waits for no man. So with that said im officially done with fighting.”

Byrd picked up a 10-7-0 mark as a professional MMA fighter (1-3-0 UFC), with notable wins coming over John Phillips, Randal Wallace, Jamie Pickett and Mike Jasper. Byrd’s last win as a professional MMA fighter came at UFC Fight Night London in 2018, where he defeated the aforementioned Phillips by first round submission.
