Chael Sonnen Still Wants To Fight Wanderlei Silva
Chael Sonnen fought for the first time in three years at Bellator 170, where he was submitted in the first round by Tito Ortiz. Despite the loss, Sonnen still wants to fight longtime rival Wanderlei Silva, one of the main reasons he signed with Bellator MMA.
“I came here to chase Wanderlei,” Sonen said to at the post-fight presser for Bellator 170. “I didn't care about Tito but Wanderlei is busy so when they asked about Tito I said yeah.”
Sonnen doesn’t necessarily want to fight Silva in the Bellator MMA, he will fight him anywhere, even the next time he sees him.
“The next time I see Wanderlei Silva, I’m going to be fighting Wanderlei Silva,” Sonnen said. “And he is going to tell you the same thing. And the goal is, it will be inside of a ring on an appropriate time. But the next time I see him, I’m going to be fighting him.”
Sonnen is currently winless under the Bellator MMA banner, but he was a longtime veteran of the UFC, where he challenged a total of three times for both the middleweight and light heavyweights titles, but Sonnen came up short in all three title shots to then champions Jon Jones and Anderson Silva (twice).
