Chad Mendes Wants Rematch With Frankie Edgar

Former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar picked up a first round knockout win over Chad Mendes in the main event of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale.

Chad Mendes is almost done with his two year USADA issued suspension and the fighter would like another opportunity at the New Jersey native.

“I honestly would like to get that Frankie fight back,” Mendes said on The MMA Hour. “Frankie is obviously a top-level guy and he’s a guy that I know I can beat. That fight would be great. I honestly feel like any of the guys I match up with in the top ten, I match up great.”

Edgar has won three of five bouts since the first meeting, while Mendes hasn’t fought since then due to the aforementioned USADA suspension.

Mendes is also a part of Team Alpha Male and with so many team members ranked in the featherweight division right now, a bout between teammates could happen for Mendes in the future.

“It sucks now that Team Alpha Male is kind of taking over the featherweight division,” Mendes said. “I think we have four or five guys in top 15. We’ve already sat and talked. I told these guys, I love you all and I don’t want to fight you unless it’s for a title, but if it’s for a belt, we’re gonna scrap. I think everyone is on the same page as far as that goes. We’re not going to fight unless it’s for a belt. That’s kind of where we’re at at this point.”

While Mendes is booked to fight Myles Jury at UFC Fight Night Boise, a bout hasn’t been set for Edgar since his win at UFC Fight Night Atlantic City.
