Carlos Condit, Matt Brown Both Tease Retirement At UFC Fight Island 7
Saturday may be the end of the line for two of the UFC’s most reliable action fighters, as both Carlos Condit, and Matt Brown have teased an exit from the promotion following UFC Fight Island 7.
Condit, a former UFC interim welterweight champion, is entering the final fight on his UFC contract. He revealed in a pre-fight interview that high profile cuts and his poor stretch of performances have him wondering if this fight could be his last.
“I have my mind supremely focused on this fight getting this thing handled,” Condit told reporters (h/t MMA Junkie). “There’s a lot riding on this fight – a lot of guys getting cut, a lot of people on the chopping block.”
“To mention the losing streak, I’ve won one of my last six, so it’s not a great record for my last contract,” he added. “I’m up for renegotiation, too, so a lot going on in this respect.”
Condit halted a five-fight losing streak in his last bout against Court McGee in October, breaking his opponent’s jaw.
Brown, his opponent on Saturday, will enter the cage considering retirement, which has become a common theme for “The Immortal”.
“It’s not out of the question this will be my last fight,” Brown said (h/t MMA Junkie). “Again, I’ll go home after and reevaluate then. I’ve got three kids and businesses and all this stuff. That’s the hard part of life. Fighting is kind of the easy part, to be honest. I miss my kids. That’s what it really comes down to – all the time away from the kids. They don’t deserve that.”
Brown has teased retirement for many years now, dating back to his 2017 clash with Diego Sanchez.
