Breaking: Conor McGregor Arrested For Allegedly Smashing Phone

Conor McGregor is back in the news, and in the big house.

The former UFC Lightweight and Featherweight Champion was arrested after he allegedly smashed the phone of a fan in Miami Beach, Florida outside of a hotel. McGregor was subsequently booked on robbery/strong-arm and criminal mischief of over $1,000.

The situation allegedly unfolded at 5 AM EST on Monday Morning outside of the Fontainebleau hotel. A fan was said to be trying to take a picture of McGregor, angering the latter. The arrest report claims that McGregor slapped the phone from the fan’s hand, picked it up and walked away with it — after stomping on it. The confrontation was captured on surveillance video and McGregor was arrested later in the day at a Miami Beach home on North Venetian Drive.

MMA Fighting has revealed some more information on the situation, stating that the victim’s name is Ahmed Abdirzak of England.

McGregor had been in Florida for several days with his girlfriend, Dee Devlin.

McGregor has just completed his community service in related to charges from the 2018 bus attack that saw him throw a dolly at a bus full of UFC fighters. McGregor had to attend anger management classes and do community service at Brooklyn churches as a result, and had this incident happened earlier, he could have been in a major violation of probation. He was originally charged with two felonies before pleading guilty to a disorderly conduct charge.

McGregor also hasn’t fought since November, when he and opponent Khabib Nurmagomedov were a part of a huge post-fight brawl that saw both of them end up with suspensions and fines.

The attorney for McGregor, Samuel Rabin through spokesperson Karen Kessler, would issue the following statement on the matter to MMA Fighting

“Last evening Conor McGregor was involved in a minor altercation over a cell phone that resulted in a call to law enforcement. Mr McGregor appreciates the response of law enforcement and pledges his full cooperation.”

McGregor would also issue the following statement via Instagram:
