Bjorn Rebney No Longer Watches Bellator MMA

Bjorn Rebney is currently the spokesperson for the Mixed Martial Arts Athletes Association (MMAAA), but before that (and a two year sabbatical), he was the creator of Bellator MMA. Rebney was ousted from the promotion in 2014 after he sold it to Viacom and Scott Coker took over his role, but nowadays, Rebney doesn’t tune in and watch the action from his former promotion.

"I haven't watched much of Bellator, because it isn't what I'd choose to watch at this stage," Rebney said on The MMA Hour. "It doesn't mean it's wrong, it doesn't mean that it's bad and it doesn't mean I disrespect or don't have great admiration for the Franks and or the Kens and for the Royces and those guys. But it's not my thing. They're very, very different. Obviously, very, very different. With that comes the ability of the company to make all of the decisions. Entrepreneurs deal with that sh*t all the time."

Rebney, now focused on his duties with the MMAAA, stands by his previous statements that if MMA isn’t fixed soon, it won’t be around much longer.

"If this doesn't get fixed, we don't have a sport in 10 years," Rebney said. "There is no possible way mixed martial arts can continue on this trajectory."

The current MMAAA board consist of UFC veterans Georges St. Pierre, Cain Velasquez, Tim Kennedy, Donald Cerrone and TJ Dillashaw, with Rebney as the spokesperson.
