BJ Penn No Longer Fighting At Featherweight

It has been over seven years since BJ Penn has earned a victory, with that last win coming over Matt Hughes at UFC 123.

If Penn does step back into the Octagon again, expect the fight to happen in a weight class other than featherweight.

“I haven’t really been thinking about fighting that much lately. But one thing is for sure: I would never fight at 145 pounds again,” Penn said to BJPenn.com.

Penn went 0-3-0 during his stint at featherweight, dropping fights to former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar, Yair Rodriguez and Dennis Siver, all of which came in embarrassing and violent fashion.

The former two division champion in Penn says that a change to featherweight would’ve been a smarter move if he was younger.

“I should have never fought at 145,” Penn said. “It was a bad decision to move down in weight at my age. Maybe if I had made the move in my early twenties it would have been different. But I did not feel good at 145.”

There is no word yet when or if Penn will return to action in the UFC or even what weight class that potential next fight could happen at, but contrary to unfounded rumors last week, he won't be fighting at UFC 222.
