Betting Breakdown
One of the most anticipated lightweight showdowns of the year commences in the UFC Austin main event when perennial contender Beneil Dariush stands across from surging contender Arman Tsarukyan.
Beneil Dariush looks to get back on track when he faces Arman Tsarukyan at UFC Austin. The longtime lightweight contender is a true veteran’s veteran as 2024 will see him hit the decade mark in the UFC. Dariush would see a mixed bag of success upon joining the promotion in 2014 as he compiled a respectable 8-4-1 mark inside of the octagon. Dariush would go on the run of his career beginning almost exactly five years ago when he would knock off eight consecutive opponents in the form of Thiago Moises, Drew Dober, Frank Camacho, Drakkar Klose, Scott Holtzman, Carlos Diego Ferreira, Tony Ferguson, and Mateusz Gamrot. Following the long win streak, Dariush would finally earn a spot in a title eliminator against longtime 155-pound king, Charles Oliveira. Unfortunately for Dariush, he’d suffer a first round TKO loss against the former champion, this past June at UFC 289.
When it comes to Dariush’s foe Tsarukyan, he’ll be looking for his third consecutive win and easily the biggest win of his burgeoning career. After losing his promotional debut to current lightweight king Islam Makhachev, Tsarukyan rattled off five straight wins, earning wins over the likes of recently retired two time PFL Champion Olivier Aubin-Mercier, Davi Ramos, Matt Frevola, Christos Giagos, and Joel Alvarez. Tsarukyan woul be on the wrong side of a unanimous decision against fellow up-and-coming challenger Mateusz Gamrot but has bounced back with back-to-back victories over Damir Ismagulov and most recently Joaquim Silva, this past June.
When it comes to the betting side of this one, oddsmakers are going with the youth as Tsarukyan is closing in as a -275 favorite while the veteran Dariush currently sits as a +225 underdog for the UFC Austin main event.
