Ben Askren Calls Out Georges St. Pierre
Georges St-Pierre has declared himself a free agent, and was quick to find a potential opponent.
Current One Championships Welterweight Champion and former Bellator MMA Welterweight Champion Ben Askren has challenged GSP via Twitter after the former UFC Champion's announcement.
Hey @GeorgesStPierre not a lot of people to fight outside the UFC. I'll be your huckleberry!!!
— Ben Askren (@Benaskren) October 17, 2016
St. Pierre (25-2-0) has not fought since a split decision win over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in November 2013. He would relinquish the welterweight title and retire a short time after the fight. GSP defended the title nine times before giving it up for his hiatus. He has not suffered a defeat in almost a decade.
Askren (15-0-0-1NC) defended the Bellator MMA Welterweight Title four times before relinquishing the belt after becoming a free agent. Askren is the current One Championships Welterweight Champion, he has successfully defended that belt one time thus far, his other title defense was a no contest.
The UFC issued a statement late Monday Night stating that GSP is still under contract to them. GSP has yet to issue any kind of statement about Askren’s challenge or about what the UFC has stated.
