Bellator 201’s Kristina Williams talks Valerie Letourneau, Volleyball & Potential Title Shot
Kristina Williams faces the biggest challenge in her relatively young professional MMA career at Bellator 201, when the undefeated star faces UFC veteran Valerie Letourneau.
The undefeated Williams is actually a late replacement for the injured Bruna Ellen, but she got word far enough ahead of time to get ready to battle the UFC veteran.
“I’ve known now for about three weeks, I had about six and a half weeks before the fight when they offered it to me because I guess Bruna Ellen got hurt. They offered the fight to me and I was really excited about it,” says Williams in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Williams is no stranger to big fights in her short pro MMA career, as the prospect has already defeated former women’s flyweight title challenger Emily Ducote and boxing star turned MMA fighter Heather Hardy.
While Williams would prefer the fight to play out on the feet, one aspect of her skill set that hasn’t been shown off much is the ground game.
“I think it might be an all around, I think we may go to the ground some. I would love to keep it striking the whole time, but I’m excited because I think I can show off my ground game that I haven’t been able to show before,” says Williams.
Bellator 201 takes place on Friday, June 29 from the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California with Ilima-Lei Macfarlane and Alejandra Lara headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on the Paramount Network.
