Anthony “Rumble” Johnson Doesn’t Think He’ll Fight Jon Jones, Talks Retirement

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson doesn’t think that a once-planned fight with Jon Jones will happen, partially because Johnson may not be around.

Johnson will look to earn a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship shot with a win over Glover Teixeira at UFC 202. After trying to make a fight with the now-suspended Jon Jones happen for well over a year, Johnson has given up hope on the idea.

It’s just not gonna happen — at this point, I know it’s not gonna happen. It is what it is. I’m moving forward. Everybody is moving forward. I’m still shooting high and trying to do what I can in this sport. I’m not focused on Jon anymore. And I can tell you Daniel Cormier, Glover — they’re not focused on Jon, either. Nobody in this division is focused on Jon anymore. That’s a fact,” Johnson told ESPN

Jones is facing a two year suspension, which will be determined later this year when he’s given his hearing. That isn’t the only reason that “Rumble” doesn’t think the fight will happen. As it turns out, he may not even still be fighting by the time Jones returns.

I ain’t trying to fight until I’m 35. I’m trying to make my money and go on to something different — do bigger and better things with my life. Hell, I don’t want to get punched in the head that damn much. I’ve got other things I want to do,” Johnson explained.
