Anthony Getschel Pleads Guilty In The Hit & Run Death Of Ryan Jimmo, Gets Eight Year Prison Sentence
UFC veteran Ryan Jimmo was killed in June of 2016 after a vehicle driven by Anthony Getschel ran the fighter over in a parking lot. Jimmo actually died in a hospital due to the blunt force trauma suffered after getting hit by the truck driven by Getschel.
Getschel, who was initially charged with second degree murder, has agreed to a plea deal to plead guilty to manslaughter, plus hit and run related charges according to CBC. Getschel is expected to be sentenced next week in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Jordan Wagner, who was a passenger in the truck driven by Getschel, was charged with accessory to murder, it is unknown what his status is at the moment. Getschel’s girlfriend was also in the truck at the time, but no charges have been filed against her at this time.
Although Getschel hit Jimmo on June 26 of 2016, it would be two days before he was arrested because Getschel initially fled the scene before turning himself in on June 28.
Jimmo went 3-4-0 in the UFC (19-5-0 overall) and is tied with several fighters for the fastest knockout in UFC history, having defeated Anthony Perosh in just seven seconds at UFC 149. Jimmo’s last bout as a professional MMA fighter took place at UFC Fight Night 67 in May of 2015, where he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Francimar Barroso.
It was announced on December 3 that Getschel will serve an eight year prison sentence for the death of Jimmo according to the Edmonton Journal.
Getschel would say the following in court as the sentence was handed out:
“I’m very sorry for the pain that I caused. I’ll never be able to forgive myself for what happened.”
