Anderson Silva Wants A Fighters Union/Association
Former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva returns to action this weekend at UFC 208, where he’ll be taking on Derek Brunson.
Silva, who is the longest middleweight champion in UFC history, believes a fighters union/association would be a good thing for the sport.
“This is important. This sport has (become) more professional, outside, so for me this is important,” Silva said during a UFC 208 media scrum. “Sometimes the guys don’t (express correctly) how much this sport needs to change, for unions and this. The fighters need to come and stay together, so this sport would become better and better.”
Silva’s coming off of a one fight stint at light heavyweight, where he lost to UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier by decision at UFC 200. Silva also states that he has a good relationship with the UFC and it’s fighters, but still thinks a union/association is what's best for everybody.
“It’s very important. This is the future of the sport. I have a good relationship with all fighters. I have a good relationship with my company, the UFC. But this is important for fighters, and for this sport to be better. This is my personal opinion,” says Silva.
UFC 208 takes place on Saturday, February 11 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York with Holly Holm and Germaine De Randamie headlining.
