Amanda Nunes Takes Athlete Development Role With Invicta FC
UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes is now heading to Invicta FC, but not as a fighter, but as a member of the athlete development team.
The champion’s being welcomed back to the promotion with open arms and Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp couldn’t be happier to have her on the team.
“I’ve known and worked with Amanda for a long time, going all the way back to our Strikeforce days,” Knapp said in a press release. “She was already part of the Invicta family, but now it’s official; now it’s on paper. I can’t think of a better ambassador for the sport and our organization.”
Nunes’ role in the organization will see her help out with matchmaking, plus scouting MMA talent in both Brazil and the southeastern United States. Nunes had fought twice in the promotion before coming to the UFC, defeating Raquel Pa'aluhi and suffering a defeat to Sarah D'Alelio.
All the champion would like to do is to use her experience to help get the next generation of female fighters ready.
“I’ve been very fortunate throughout my career to fight for the best organizations in the world,” Nunes said. “In my new position, I hope to be able to use my experience as a fighter and a champion to help groom the next generation. I’m honored to be a part of their journey at Invicta.”
Invicta FC returns to action tomorrow night with Invicta FC 27, featuring UFC veteran Sarah Kaufman and Pannie Kianzad in the main event.
