Amanda Nunes Happy To Wait For Ronda Rousey
Amanda Nunes accomplished a lifelong dream at UFC 200 when she submitted Miesha Tate in the main event too become the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion. However, while the champion is no doubt eager to defend her newly won championship, there is something…or someone for that matter that she is willing to wait for and that someone is former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey.
Nunes recently sat down with the fine folks at The MMA Circus to talk about a potential fight with the “Rowdy” one, Nunes stated…
“I hope [Rousey] can get everything together and then get back in the cage soon. The biggest fight for my career right now was the one to get the belt. The only one that is gonna be main event and gonna be huge is Ronda Rousey coming back. Everybody wants to see me against Ronda Rousey…Of course, I want to fight as soon as possible. I’d be happy to wait if they tell me, ‘You are gonna fight Ronda Rousey, for sure, next year, this day.’ I’d wait. But if it’s nothing for sure, if it’s nothing set, I can’t wait. I want to fight. But we’ll see.”
MMA fans can be an impatient group at times, a lot of them are anxious to see Nunes defend the gold and one of the top contenders is Valentina Shevchenko. On the same show, Nunes spoke about a potential rematch with Shevchenko…
“I already beat her by unanimous decision. I don’t know why she talks sh-t; I don’t know what she’s thinking. I’m sorry, Shevchenko, but you have to be in the line. Next time. I know she’s gonna beat a lot of girls in the division, she’s a tough girl, but Julianna Pena’s gonna be next [if Rousey doesn’t return].”
One thing is for sure, whether Nunes waits for Rousey or faces Shevchenko/Pena, the champion has a lot of contenders wanting her gold.
