Ali Abdelaziz Says The UFC Has Taken Care Of Kelvin Gastelum After Canceled Fight

Kelvin Gastelum was supposed to challenge Robert Whittaker for the UFC Middleweight Title in the main event of UFC 234, but then Whittaker needed emergency surgery and the bout was canned.

Ali Abdelaziz is Gastelum’s agent and he says that the UFC has taken care of Gastelum for the canceled fight.

“I just talked to Dana White and they are taking care of Kelvin, financially,” Abdelaziz told ESPN. “He’s very happy.”

There is no word yet on exactly how much money was awarded to Gastelum, but Abdelaziz told ESPN that it was in the six figure range.

Abdelaziz would also like to see the fight re-booked for this Summer, once the UFC Middleweight Champion has healed from the recent medical scare.

“I heard Whittaker can start training in five weeks and we are looking to get this fight rebooked between June or July,” Abdelaziz said.

UFC President Dana White stated that there is a minimum of four weeks recovery time for Whittaker, but an exact return date should be known as the fighter heals up from the surgery. A bout between former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva and Israel Adesanya wound up headlining the card, which was won via decision by Adesanya.
