Alexander Volkanovski Finally Returns Home After Blood Infection

After defeating Jose Aldo, Alexander Volkanovski was hospitalised with an unforeseen blood infection. He’s now finally returned home.

After spending the week in a Chilean hospital, Alexander Volkanovski has finally returned home.

At UFC 237, ‘The Great’ scored a career-best win, defeating Jose Aldo in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Volkanovski came out the relatively clear decision winner, making it 17 straight wins and taking another step towards title contention. However, his triumphant trip home soon halted any celebrations, coming down with an unforeseen blood infection and being hospitalized in Chile.

Thankfully, Volkanovski has since made a recovery and this week, he finally returned home to Australia. Posting on Instagram just hours ago, the Featherweight contender revealed that he’d traveled in style too.

During Volkanovski’s stay in the hospital, Max Holloway’s next opponent was announced. The 145 lbs champion is once again booked to take on Frankie Edgar, this time on July 27th at UFC 240. The snub left Volkanovski’s coach “gutted,” telling Submission Radio that he was “absolutely livid” about the news.

Nonetheless, Volkanovski’s health was obviously a central concern and now that he’s once again healthy, a title shot can’t be far away. Since arriving in the UFC, Volkanovski (20-1) has won all six of his octagon outings, climbing the rankings and now residing at #1 in the UFC’s Featherweight standings. The next title shot is likely his, it’s now just a matter of whether or not he’ll wait for it.
