Alejandra Lara Talks Bellator Flyweight Title Fight Against Ilima-Lei Macfarlane at Bellator 201
Alejandra Lara is preparing for what is arguably the biggest fight in her professional MMA career thus far, as the fighter faces Bellator MMA Women’s Flyweight Champion Ilima-Lei Macfarlane for the gold in the main event of Bellator 201.
Although the fighter is just weeks away from challenging for the gold, it was a bout the challenger was expecting to have this early in her Bellator MMA tenure.
“I wasn’t expecting to get that title fight so soon, I was even predicting that since they offered me the first fight (against Lena Ovchynnikova)…I was looking at who was the champion, expecting a fight with her. We just didn’t expect it as soon,” says Lara in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Lara has only competed once thus far under the Bellator MMA banner, having defeated the aforementioned Lena Ovchynnikova by submission at Bellator 190.
The title challenger also has to be at exactly 125 pounds for the opportunity to take the Bellator gold home and the fighter says she is prepared to make the weight on June 29.
“I feel that I have a very good head for the category, I just like me doing it. I don’t have a nutritionist and I became a vegetarian like seven years ago. I felt like it was not that easy, I’m in connection with my body. I felt like (I’m in a) good process, I feel prepared for (making) the same weight. I’m better because I’m learning and I feel good to do it (cutting weight) again,” says Lara.
Bellator 201 takes place on Friday, June 29 from the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California with Ilima-Lei Macfarlane and Alejandra Lara headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on the Paramount Network.
