Zolani Tete Suffers Calf Injury, Title Defense Against Omar Narvaez Posponed

WBO bantamweight champion Zolani Tete suffered a calf injury, postponing his upcoming title defense against Omar Narvaez, which was set to take place on February 10.

Tete's title fight against Narvaez was going to headline a Copper Box Arena show on that evening, but the injury will not allow him to properly prepare for the fight. As such, the fight is postponed and will likely take place sometime next spring.

"I'm hugely disappointed to have to postpone my fight with Omar Narvaez. Unfortunately, I picked up a calf injury that has severely hindered my training and the only option was to postpone the fight. I train as hard as I fight so there is always a risk of picking up injuries," Tete said.

As for the rest of the card, the fight will continue as planned with a new main event, likely either the vacant WBC International welterweight title fight between Bradley Skeete and Laszlo Toth or the WBO European and WBO Intercontinental light heavyweight title fight between Anthony Yarde and Tony Averlant. Another key fight on the card is top British heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois facing DL Jones.

Tete won his last fight by knocking out Siboniso Gonya in a world-record breaking 11 seconds. That fight was one of the featured fights at the event which took place at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Narvaez is a former WBO super flyweight and bantamweight world champion and has won his last four fights.
