WWE has plenty of room for growth even after record year
The exciting prospect for WWE is that there is plenty more room to expand further into new markets, particularly those which are online. Other sporting and entertainment genres, from horse racing along to the television show Peaky Blinders, have capitalized on the online casino market. With officially franchised casino games such as themed bingo or slot reels, the reach of these brands is exponentially boosted. Consider, for example, the array of slot games at SkyCity: there are themes galore, but plenty of titles that clearly use the likeness of famous figures as part of their branding to appeal to new customers.
WWE could certainly learn from the examples above: as it stands, there’s only one slot game in existence that models itself on the famous wrestler Andre the Giant. However, this game isn’t even officially affiliated with the WWE brand. If WWE were to focus more on their potential reach in the online casino market, they could really cement their appeal to a contemporary audience that consumes entertainment predominantly through the internet.
Everyone knows the names that brought the WWE to the forefront of popular culture such as The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, The Undertaker, and Triple H. However, McMahon and his team have always managed to cultivate the next generation to take over the mantle as John Cena succeeded The Rock, while Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins are among the current levels of talent that have allowed WWE Raw and WWE Smackdown along with the leading PPV events must-watch television.
Beyond the live-action element, WWE has mastered the market regarding online console games. Since the initial breakthrough in 1987, when their brand was known as the WWF, they have produced quality games for the top consoles of the period whether it was with Commodore 64 and Atari ST in the 1980s or PlayStation 5 and Xbox in the modern-day. Their most recent console game WWE 2K22 is one of the most-anticipated releases of 2022 across both platforms. However, there are so many more avenues to consider for this online approach, especially for older fans.
The company needs to keep pace with the habits of supporters that were loyal during the days of the 1990s and the Attitude Era and learn that broaching out into other forms of entertainment could elevate their growth and potential revenue even further as online casinos have operations in a vast number of territories across the world. There will be no shortage of WWE fans that would have interest in playing a casino or slot game should it come to fruition and it could be an idea that spans a generational gap.
Given the scope of WWE, there could be slot or casino games developed regarding legendary superstars dating back to the 1970s, 80s, and 90s along with the stars of the new generation. It would certainly help broaden the appeal of the product, and given that McMahon is as savvy as they come in the world of entertainment it should be broached.
