World Boxing Super Series Super Middleweight Finals Gets Date And Venue

We’ve known for a while when and where the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament finals will take place, but now the super middleweight tournament has date and venue as well.

Kalle Sauerland has informed Boxing Scene that the WBSS 168-pound tournament will take place at the O2 Arena in London on June 2.

The super middleweight tournament is currently in its semifinal phase. The first super middleweight semifinals takes place on February 17 when WBA “super” champion George Groves takes on IBO champion Chris Eubank Jr. at the Manchester Arena in Manchester. The other semifinal match will take place on February 24 and will feature WBC Diamond champion Callum Smith fighting former light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer in Germany. The winner of those two fights will meet in London for the final.

The WBSS cruiserweight finals will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on May 11. The WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF and Ring Magazine titles will be on the line for that final, contested by Oleksandr Usyk and Murat Gassiev, the tournament’s top two seeds at cruiserweight.

The O2 Arena will be busy in the coming months, holding a boxing event every month from February to June. The O2 Arena will host the rematch between Tony Bellew and David Haye on May 5 and will also host WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders’ next title defense on April 14. Saunders will defend his title against Martin Murray in the main event. The venue recently hosted the Lawrence Okolie vs. Isaac Chamberlain event on February 3.
